John McCord:  Preaching Minister

John McCord has been the preaching minister since 2002.  Before coming to El Campo John was the youth minister of the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana.  John is originally from Centerville, Tennessee and came to Texas in 1989 to attend Abilene Christian University.  He graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in Pulpit Ministry.  He also completed the Master of Arts in Religion in 2002 from the Graduate School of Theology, Abilene Christian University.

In addition to preaching and youth ministry, John has served as a motivational speaker and abstinence educator with the Governor’s Program on Abstinence in Louisiana.  He has spoken to numerous students in middle schools, high schools, and colleges on the benefits of being sexually chaste.  He also served as an abstinence curriculum coordinator for a five-parish region in northeast Louisiana.  John volunteered as a board member of an organization called “Willing to Wait,” a social program with a spiritual component, training families in northeast Louisiana to instill values and morality in children hoping to curb the high rate of teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

John met his bride, the former Melinda (“Mindy”) Kniffen of Andrews, Texas at Abilene Christian University.  John and Mindy married in 1991, and have three children: Hannah, Eli, and Rebekah.

John loves golf, running, fishing (fresh & saltwater), waterfowl hunting, and big game hunting in the Rocky Mountain West.

Jesus Said

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have command you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."                   Mathew 28:18-20
